Are Wedding Favors Still A Thing?

By: Lucy Anne

The short answer to the question of whether or not brides and grooms still give away wedding favors is yes….

The days of gift bags filled with candy and unnecessary gifts that would wind up thrown in the trash are long gone. I am a wedding photographer and having been a part of many weddings, this is what I can share; wedding favors should be meaningful, useful, contain a sweet note from the couple, and be bought in bulk to help your budget

Today, couples should focus on providing their guests with something special and useful that will help them remember their wedding. What you need to know about how to distribute a meaningful wedding favor is provided here! If your budget allows for it and you want to, a wedding favor is a wonderful way to say "thank you" to the relatives and friends that traveled from near and far to celebrate you. Making sure you give your guests something they won't want to forget at the end of the night while minimizing waste is possible by keeping things simple and thoughtful with one or two useful gifts.

As a wedding photographer, it’s easy to get lost in the beautiful details of the day. One of the gestures I always look forward to are the wedding favors! A wedding favor to me, is a small gesture of the couple’s gratitude towards their guest’s support and their efforts in making it out to their event. As I’ve worked many weddings throughout the years, I’ve seen the favors grow into more creative and useful gifts.

Something I admire is when couples team up with local businesses for their favors, and I know they are truly made with love. Most often, those local businesses are providing a product that your guests will go home and actually use! Say goodbye to the days of pens and paperweights! One of the worst feelings is coming home from a wedding and throwing your favor straight into the trash, because you know it will only collect dust in a random corner of your home.

You might be asking yourself “what in the world should I give my guests then?” Well, here are a couple things to consider…

  1. Your budget. – What are you able to afford? Knowing your price range is the first place to start.
  2. Number of Guests. – How many favors will you be buying? That could make a huge difference in the favor you choose. When you know what your budget is and how many guests you have, then you are able to determine how much you are able to spend per guest (or couple).
  3. Do you want your gifts to be personalized? Edible? Non-Edible? – For this one, allergies is definitely something to consider.

Thank you gifts - wedding

All in all, on the day of your wedding, it will be filled with a whirlwind of excitement. With that being said, you may not be able to spend all the time with each guest that you would like. Think about what you would like your guests to exit your event with that will express your love and gratitude for them.
